My name is David Turnidge
and together with members of my family and fellow
researchers, have constructed the Turnidge Family Tree.
The Turnidge family name
has gone through many variations of spelling and at the
last count we had 52. Our roots as far as records reveal
are very much Essex. The earliest records in 1500's being
in and around North Essex (now Greater London) and more
central Essex during the 1600's.
During the 1600's the
family seemed to get the travel bug and spread out from
Great Waltham and surrounding areas to London, Yorkshire,
Scotland, Australia, U.S.A. and Leigh on Sea where my
branch kicks in.
For some strange reason,
the family name got modified to TURNNIDGE during it's time
in Leigh on Sea. Family legend claims a rift in the family
which lead some to change the spelling but I have yet to
find evidence of this. I do know however, that the two
"N" variation of our name originated only in
Leigh on Sea. All TURNNIDGE'S should be able to trace
their roots back to Leigh.
